Pressure transducers are used in systems where pressure measurement is required, and these can include controllers, alarms, HVAC, pumps, vehicles or aircraft to name a few. Often called a pressure transmitter, a pressure transducer is a device (transducer) that works by converting pressure into an analog or digital electrical signal, and it measures the pressure of fluids. The transducer sensor uses either resistive, capacitive, or inductive methods to generate that electrical signal, but it is the components used in the transducer sensor which determines the type it is. There are also a wide range of pressure transducers to cover a broad set of applications such as the flow, air speed, level, altitude, or pump systems, and many of these are used to control the applications as well.
How to decide on the right pressure transducer sensor or transmitter, is to look at the criteria you need to meet, that will help you decide on the best device. However, you may also need to consider the outputs. These include the digital pressure transducer (smart sensors) which offers more versatility than the analog signals, and are ideal for long transmission distances. Then there is the millivolt output pressure sensor (ratiometric), which is what you should use when you need something more durable, and it can be used for short distances or where there is little electrical noise. The voltage pressure transmitter works well where there is electrical noise, whilst the mA output pressure transmitter is ideal where there is high electrical interference or where longer transmission distances are required to get the job done.
